The AN/PEQ-2 is an infrared laser (visible only with Night Vision optics) and infrared illuminator. At night, you ideally want to have your NV head-mounted so that you can see wherever you are looking. This makes using iron sights and standard optics difficult or impossible, though, so instead, troops use the laser to aim with.
I’ve seen a lot of Peq-2’s with corrosion. Use lithium or take the battery out if it’s a personal item. Idk why, maybe it’s heating and cooling of the battery when on a rifle, but I feel like batteries inside PEQ-2’s cause corrosion way faster and more often than any other regular item I’ve used alkaline batteries in.
The AN/PEQ-2 does not have the safety block, but the AN/PEQ-2A does (or can).
